I find that when I get mobile it always comes with a price. Slower internet(Wi-fi vs LAN cable), smaller screen, less preferable keyboard. This may be a byproduct of making a really cozy nest for my primary workstation. I am going to try and be more mobile and see where it takes me!

Brian J. I am at the blank page/proposal stage right now, feeling a little uncertain and not-so-efficacious. It's encouraging to hear that in time, things will come together and I will eventually finish. I thought I would be more focused in my research interests by this point. Also thought I would be more published. I get down on myself for both those things but intellectually, I know it doesn't help to be self-critical. I hope you are enjoying your new position. Great post. I have often spoken about designing a semester as laying out a movie... if you remember we had a week in 917 where we had no readings - that was a deliberate slowing down of the pace, a moment of reflection, before the big climax of the end of the semester presentations. Sort of a similar idea. ~ punya

Re: Of dissertations, books, surviving grad school and beyond

Thanks for the submission, Stephen. And I couldn't agree more with your thoughts here. Not that I've actually finished and have the kind of perspective that you have just yet, but I agree that writing that proposal took me more time than I had ever imagined I would...and that, at many points through the process, I wondered why I had decided to leave my life as "an adult" :) For me, the added stress of having a little baby who wouldn't sleep through the night meant that I lived through this part of my program feeling like the undead. Actually, a Zombie might have felt a little more intellectually vibrant than I did...but with the end now in sight, pressing through seems like it might just lead me to actually achieve the things I set out to accomplish by taking this risk. Thanks for the perspective, which has give me an extra little push to get this dissertation finished!

Re: White House goes Drupal

The blog is
absolutely fantastic. I think your story is also about what motivates us to try harder, try new things, go beyond the known, and we do that because we are inspired by _________. As educators, who are we inspiring to go that extra mile or more, and how are we using technology to make those inspiring moments accessible to others around us?

Re: Student Engagement & a Tale of Two Images

The distortion in the first graph is an interesting point.
